ABSTRACT
In greenhouse production the various type of growing media is used for more and economic production of floricultural or vegetables. The physical properties i.e. bulk density, moisture content and water holding capacity of growing media play an important role in growth and development of plants. The physical properties of growing media (soil, perlite, cocopeat and vermiculite) were determined. The individual growing media (soil, perlite, cocopeat and vermiculite) and their combinations were used to production of Amaranthus. Resulted low bulk density in vermiculite (330 kg/m3) and high bulk density in soil (1160 kg/m3). The high moisture content and water holding capacity found in vermiculite. In all the treatments soil + vermiculite + perlite was most effective treatment in soil mix media and in soil less media perlite + vermiculite was best treatment. In this height of plants, stem diameter and leaf area showed difference among growing media.
