ABSTRACT
The present investigation on phenotypic characteristics of goats maintained in Washim tahsil, of Washim district was undertaken to characterize the goats on the basis of physical and qualitative traits. A survey was carried out by selection of 132 goat keepers from 11 villages of Washim tahsil. Goat keepers were categorized on the basis of flock size viz., very small (up to 10 goats), small (up to 25 goats) medium (up to 50 goats) and large (above 50 goats). Total 436 male and 1064 female goats were selected randomly from 913 male and 1739 female goats of different groups. Finding of this investigation indicated that the goats maintained in Washim tahsil are of medium sized with predominantly brown mixed with white or black in colour, convex forehead, and straight horns in backward direction, pendulous ear and medium tail absence of wattles and beared in majority cases.
