ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out to study the combining ability and heterosis of fifty crosses made by crossing five sudan grass pollinators with ten cytoplasmic male sterile lines in a line x tester mating design in forage sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]. The analysis for combining ability revealed significant mean sum of squares of both general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) for most of the characters indicated presence of both additive and non-additive gene actions. The parental genotypes 32 A2, MR 750 A2 and PC 6, crosses 32 A2 x PC 6 and MR 750 A2 x HC 26 PC 6 were good general and specific combiners with greater heterotic effects for green and dry fodder yield, respectively. These parental genotypes and their crosses could be used further in breeding programme for selection and enhancement of yield after multilocation testing in sorghum.
